Trigger finger release surgery is an outpatient procedure used to treat a condition known as trigger finger or trigger thumb. Trigger finger occurs when the tendons that control the movement of a finger become inflamed, causing them to catch or lock up in a bent position.

The condition known as Dupuytren’s contracture affects the hand’s ability to move normally. The release surgery involves cutting, removing or stretching out the affected tissue to restore flexibility in the hand.
